New Year’s Eve on Sydney Harbour: Water Taxi FAQ

1. What cruise options are available?

  • 9pm Family Fireworks Cruise: Departs at 8:00pm and returns at 9:30pm.
  • Midnight Main Event Cruise: Departs at 11:00pm and returns at 12:30am.

2. Where do the cruises depart from?

  • Shared cruises typically depart from Woolloomooloo Wharf, opposite the Woolloomooloo Bay Hotel.

  • Private charters can depart from a variety of wharfs, though extra fees may apply for non-standard pickup locations.

3. How many passengers can each boat hold?

  • Each water taxi can accommodate 20–28 passengers, ideal for both shared groups and private celebrations.

4. Can I bring my own food and drinks?

  • Yes! All cruises are BYO (Bring Your Own). Most vessels will provide ice, but you should check this in advance.

5. Are there onboard facilities?

  • Boats come with Bluetooth sound systems so guests can enjoy the synchronized fireworks soundtrack.

  • Note: There are no toilet facilities onboard, so plan accordingly.

6. Do the water taxis access the exclusion zone?

  • Yes. Water taxis are the only vessels allowed inside the official exclusion zone between 9:45pm & 11:00pm after the exclusion zone is active at 8pm , offering prime advantage to get to and from different viewing locations for the midnight fireworks displays. Water Taxis are also except from the 6-knot speed restriction that in place from 3:00pm to 7:00pm which means they can still get you around the Harbour quicker

7. How do I book, and when should I pay?

  • Bookings are made directly through the operator via phone or email.

  • Full payment is required by 30 November. Cancellations are non-refundable.

8. Can I use the water taxi just to get to or from most places ?

  • Absolutely. You can book a water taxi simply for transport to or from your land-based New Year’s Eve location—especially useful given the city’s road closures and large crowds.

9. What will I see before the fireworks?

  • Cruises typically include a scenic Harbour tour, experiencing iconic landmarks before stopping right on the exclusion Zone line normally between Clark and Bradleys for an unforgettable panoramic view of the fireworks display.

10. What restrictions are placed on water taxis during the night?

  • Water taxis are restricted from operating within the exclusion zone between 20:00 (8pm) to 21:45 (9:45pm) and from 23:00 (11pm) to 00:45am (12:45am) subject to change by authorities. But we can move around out outside of the exclusion zone without restriction but must maintain a 6-knot speed limit.
  • Water Taxi are also restricted using several Wharf and Places including Circular Quay during certain times please see below.

If you’ve ever considered a cruise on Sydney Harbour at night, you can’t go past New Year’s Eve for a visual extravaganza of epic proportions you will not forget. We offer shared cruises leaving from Woolloomooloo wharf in Front of China Doll Restaurant or you can hire the water taxis for exclusive group hire, Relax or whoop it up and get into the fun atmosphere with a couple of million other folks around the Harbour. There are two great cruises on the night. For the 9.00 P.M. fireworks display we do a cruise from 8.00 until 9.30 p.m. For the midnight fireworks, we cruise from 11.00 until 1230. We guarantee you will see all there is to see on the night. We usually cruise around slowly for an hour or so checking out all the sights while you sip your (B.Y.O.) celebratory drinks until shortly before the firing where we find a spot near the Opera House and Harbour Bridge to watch the most amazing fireworks you’ll ever see.

New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day. All allocated seats for fireworks and all other transfers are to be paid for in full, by the 30th of November prior to the Event and  are non-refundable.
